On Friday, State Police K9 “Flash” played a part in arresting a suspect who buried himself with leaves to evade capture.

At around 11 p.m., Wareham Police asked for help from State Troopers in locating a suspect that had fled on foot near 7-Eleven on Cranberry Highway in East Wareham.

According to State Police, Troopers Steven Culver of the K9 Unit and Trooper Evan Mastera of the Bourne Barracks responded along with Flash for the search.

Flash was taken to the spot where the suspect was last seen near a trailer park and then tracked him through heavy brush and briars. Police said Flash then alerted them to a pile of leaves.

On a command from Culver, the suspect then uncovered himself and surrendered without incident. The suspect was arrested and turned over to Wareham Police.

Police Chief Kevin Walsh said he planned to release information about the incident Monday.
