State Senator Marc R. Pacheco (D-Taunton), Senate Chairman of the Joint Committee on Environment, Natural Resources, and Agriculture, will be recognized by MassRecycle on Tuesday, April 8, as part of MassRecycle’s R3 Recycling and Organics Conference and Trade Show at the Best Western Royal Plaza Hotel and Trade Center in Marlborough.

Pacheco, along with committee House Chairman Anne M. Gobi (D-Spencer), were both awarded MassRecycle’s “Public Servant Award” last year as part of MassRecycle’s 18th annual Recycling Awards for making recycling a top priority, which involves the reduction of solid waste, protection of the environment, reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, the preservation of landfill space, the creation of jobs, and cost saving.

MassRecycle is a statewide coalition of individuals, municipalities, businesses, and institutions dedicated to increasing waste reduction and diversion in the Commonwealth and to realizing the environmental, social, job creating, and economic benefits that result from recycling and purchasing recycled products.

On Tuesday, starting at 10:45 a.m., MassRecycle will recognize Pacheco before he speaks as part of their R3 Conference, which addresses “real world issues, real world solutions” and is considered the largest annual recycling and organics conference and trade show in the Commonwealth. Pacheco will discuss recycling bills at the State House, including his own S.389, an act relative to recycling, which would have the Department of Environmental Protection establish performance standards for the reduction of municipal solid waste to achieve the Commonwealth's solid waste master plan and greenhouse gas reduction plan.

“I am honored MassRecycle has recognized the hard work of the Committee on Environment, Natural Resources, and Agriculture to promote recycling and waste reduction programs in the Commonwealth,” said Pacheco, who also chairs the Senate Committee on Global Warming and Climate Change. “With the help of co-chair Anne Gobi, our committee has taken significant steps to promote sustainability in Massachusetts, and I look forward to engaging other leaders at the R3 Conference as we work together to protect the environment, preserve landfill space, and create jobs.”
