Steven P. Tavares, 71, of Wareham, died August 1, 2022, in Tobey Hospital, Wareham. He was the son of the late Thomas F. Tavares, Sr. and Dominga (Perry) Tavares.
He was born in Wareham and lived there for most of his life. He graduated from Wareham High School. He was a Vietnam War Veteran serving in the United States Marine Corps.
Mr. Tavares was a member of the Laborer’s Union, Local 385. He worked for Webster Engineering in Boston for several years before retiring.
Mr. Tavares enjoyed playing golf, especially with his son.
Survivors include a daughter, Tahlia Tavares-Mann and her husband, Lincoln of Middleboro; a son, Derek S. Tavares and his wife, Michelle of Mattapoisett; Partner Carol Sheehan of Wareham; 4 stepchildren, Lorna Brunelle and Elizabeth Poirer of Middleboro, Kristy Fernandes Asebedo of San Diego and Lynne Roupa of Middleboro; his siblings, Terry Lee Tavares of New Bedford, Thomas F. Tavares, Jr. of Wareham, Nadine Tavares of Wareham and Della M. Silvia of Wareham; his grandchildren, Tyler Lambert, Madison Tavares, Trey Mann and Avery Tavares; 2 Step Grandchildren, Zachary and Melanie Roupa of Middleboro; his great grandchildren, Adeline and Penelope Lambert who he adored. He was the brother of the late Donna Marie Tavares.
Visiting hours are from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, August 7, 2022, at Chapman Funerals & Cremations – Wareham, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham.
His funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, August 8, 2022, at Chapman Funerals & Cremations – Wareham, 2599 Cranberry Hwy., Wareham. Burial will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Family and friends are welcome to a reception at the VFW in Onset, MA following commencement of services.
