Strumming for the Summer of Love
They sang, strummed, and drummed at Cosi restaurant on Thursday, all to raise money for the Onset Summer of Love music series.
Kat Jones, Josh Hunt, and Heather Twiss provided the entertainment and Cosi donated 10 percent of its sales from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. to the music series.
The Summer of Love, sponsored by the Onset Bay Association, is coordinated by Jones, who owns Onset business Artisana, along with Marie Poulin, owner of Happy Zone, and Mikala McCane. The three volunteers book the bands, raise money, and promote the concerts.
The concerts are free to attend, are family-friendly, and start June 16 and run until September 15. Bands play from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m at the Onset Bandshell.
The series is entering its third season, and this year's line-up includes everything from acoustic and classic-rock bands to a Grateful Dead tribute band. Jones said the series was created after people seemed to lose interest in an acoustic concert series that also ran on Wednesdays during the summer.
"We revived it and kicked it up a notch," she said.
About $6,000 must be raised to pay the bands and cover various expenses. Businesses interested in becoming vendors at the concerts can contact Jones at 508-725-2657.
Another Cosi fundraiser for the Summer of Love, again featuring live music, will be held on May 19 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
