Student athletes busy over holiday break

Christmas season may bring breaks for students and families, but not for athletes! Come spread holiday cheer and support Wareham’s winter sports at upcoming competitions.

The 2010 state champion boys varsity basketball team will compete at home against Dighton-Rehoboth at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 21. On Wednesday, December 26, the boys will play in Fairhaven at 6:30 p.m. They’re home again on Friday, Dec. 28, against Case High School at 6:30 p.m.

Girls varsity basketball will be away on Friday, Dec. 21, playing Dighton-Rehoboth at 6:30 p.m. The girls' next game will be home against Fairhaven at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 27. The girls will be playing at Case High School at 6:30 p.m. as well on Friday, Dec. 28.

The boys and girls winter track teams will compete against Apponequet at 1 p.m. at Greater New Bedford Regional Voc-Tech High School on Thursday, Dec. 27. On Saturday, Dec. 29, the teams will be in Boston at the Reggie Lewis Center, for the Holiday Challenge meet at 9:30 a.m.

Boys ice hockey has a game over Christmas break against Pope John Paul II High School at 5:20 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22, at Hyannis Youth and Community Center. The next game is at the CDL Arena in Raynham, versus Southeastern Regional Voc-Tech High School, at 12:40 p.m.

Bourne/Mashpee/Wareham (BMW) girls ice hockey will be in Matthews Arena in Boston against Latin Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 20th. The girls will be home in Falmouth at 2:50 p.m. on Dec. 22, playing Martha’s Vineyard. The girls will be home again in Gallo Arena in Bourne on Jan. 2 at 8:30 p.m. against Whitman Hanson Pembroke.

The new Carver/Wareham wrestling team will compete at the Marshfield Tournament at 10 a.m. on Dec. 27 and 28. On Dec. 29, the JV teams will compete at 10 a.m. Then, on Jan. 2nd, the wrestling team will be in Middleborough at 7 p.m.
