Student makes All-State chorus for second year in a row
Wareham High School senior Eric Balboni has been selected to perform in the All-State Music Festival chorus at Symphony Hall in Boston for the second year in a row.
"This is big time," Wareham High School music director Jayson Newell said. "This never happens."
Students from schools across the state audition for the highly-selective All-State chorus, band, and orchestra. Accepted students will meet at the Seaport Hotel in Boston on Thursday for two days of rehearsal. They perform at Symphony Hall on Saturday.
"Last year, it was the most amazing experience of my life, and I [am] so happy that I get to do it again," Balboni said.
Balboni said he plans to study music education in college and become a high school music teacher. He's applied to several schools and is waiting for replies. Boston University is his top choice, he said.
It has been a successful start to the year for the High School Music Department. Ten students performed in the All-Cape Music Festival at Barnstable High School last month, which Newell said is unusual.
"That's a giant number," Newell said. "If you get one [student into the festival] you're doing really good."
