Students’ ‘exemplary writing skills’ recognized
Eight students from Wareham Middle School have been recognized for their writing proficiency.
The students demonstrated exemplary writing skills on a benchmark test for English Language Arts. All students across the district complete these benchmark tests, which help show student growth and areas for improvement.
The English Language Arts benchmarks include essays based on common readings and prompts. While they aren’t tied to the MCAS tests, they are scored based on state Department of Education rubrics, to keep grading consistent across the district, said English Language Arts seventh grade teacher Libby Dever.
Each grade at the Middle School is separated into teams, with two teams in grade six and seven and four teams in grade five. One student from each team got to pick a book and a prize from the school’s prize cart.
