Discover the new Discover Wareham

Dec 30, 2024

The Discover Wareham website laid dormant for around two years before receiving a fresh new look to help anyone looking to explore the town learn more about it.

At the Dec. 10 Select Board meeting, Wareham Redevelopment Authority Intern Connor Alden gave a presentation on the work he's been doing to update Discover Wareham, a website used to show what to do and see in town.

Alden explained the Redevelopment Authority was considering discontinuing the website due to the neglect it received but after four months of work, he said he's been able to make improvements to "get more eyeballs" on the website.

Some of the areas he said he focused on when looking to improve the website were changes to the restaurant and hospitality pages as well as realty property pages.

He added the restaurant and hospitality pages got an upgrade because now, each restaurant in town has a description of what makes them unique, with a focus on local restaurants, not chains.

Another effective addition he said he's made is the use of "popups" to advertise upcoming events in town and the addition of what commercial and residential properties are available.

Since implementing these changes in October, Alden said the Redevelopment Authority has seen more people looking at the website.

"We were at about 2,500 views in September and once we added content to the website in October, we hit 7,000 views," said Alden.

Moving forward, Alden said he plans to continue to update the website and the Redevelopment Authority is going to continue to try and find ways to get more people on the website.

"The plan for the future of the website is to target ambitious but achievable goals and to continue to add content to the website to illustrate what makes Wareham such a great place," said Alden."
