Sep 4, 2011

The Swifts Beach Improvement Association held its annual field day at the Swifts Beach playground on Sunday, September 4.

More than 150 people turned out for the the Association’s end-of-summer event. Athletes aged two to 90 competed in a three-legged race, an egg toss, and a road race.

Swifts Beach Improvement Association member Janet Davies estimated the event has been going on for more than 30 years. She said the field day has always been a fun way to gather the community before the end of the summer season.

“This is our big event before everyone goes home,” Davies said. “Everybody looks forward to it. ... The kids practice for this all summer.”

The two-hour long field day wrapped up with a bocce tournament at the Association’s clubhouse.
