Take a walk with a Southcoast Doc

Apr 25, 2014

The April edition of Southcoast Health’s “Take a Walk with a Southcoast Doc” will take place on Saturday, April 26, at 10 a.m., beginning at Tobey Hospital at 43 High Street in Wareham.

The community is invited to join internal medicine Physician Robert McGowen, MD, MScPh, for a two-mile walk through historic Wareham Village and along the Wareham River. All ages and levels of walking ability are welcome.

This event is a part of the Wareham Oyster Festival, and will pass by the former sites of oyster shacks along the shoreline. During the walk, there will be a focus on the history and importance of oyster farming in Wareham.

Dr. McGowen is the Chief of Primary Care Services for the Wareham region and a primary care physician at Southcoast Physicians Group’s internal and family medicine practice at Rosebrook.

Southcoast Health at Rosebrook is a full-service medical practice location that brings together more than 20 primary care and specialty physicians, the Southcoast Center for Weight Loss and comprehensive outpatient radiology and laboratory services.

Participants of the walk will receive a free pedometer and “Better Health Kits” that include information on nutrition and exercise. Registration for the event is encouraged, and can be done by calling the Southcoast Wellness Line at 800-497-1727.

The “Take a Walk with a Southcoast Doc” program includes monthly walks with Southcoast Physicians Group doctors throughout the South Coast region. Visit www.southcoast.org/walkwithadoc/ for more information about where Southcoast physicians will be walking next.
