From fun rides on the bus to losing shoes in a field of mud, Grace Morrison and Kendall Peabody’s 2001-03 marching band experiences at Wareham High School will live on in their minds for a long time.

But while Morrison continued on in her music career, performing across the states, singing pop and country, Peabody would eventually start Lucky Goat, a brewery at 379 Main Street, with his two business partners.

Though Morrison and Peabody may appear worlds apart, their love of Wareham will bring them together again on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 6 p.m. in the Lucky Goat for a collaborative Listening Room event.

Morrison said she has traveled the country playing music and telling everyone she can about Wareham and how much she loves her “Saltwater Country,” but now is her chance to perform in the place she loves the most.

While attendees listen to the performances, they will be able to sip on the Saltwater Country beer Peabody has created for the event. It is a salted Caramel stout, with vanilla and milk sugar. Peabody said it should taste similar to crème brûlée.

There will also be soaps for sale from Pumpkintown Farm, including a Saltwater Country soap, which was made with sea salt, peppermint and water from Parkwood Beach

Morrison said some of the songs she writes, especially those on her upcoming album, “Saltwater Country,” are inspired by her experiences in Wareham.

For example, her song “Ghost Of It” from her album “Maybe Modern”  follows the story of her losing her childhood home on Parkwood Drive. There will also be a song called “Just a Kid on Parkwood” on her new album.

Morrison said the Listening Room event will help introduce her “Saltwater Country” genre as she gets ready to start recording her album.

Morrison will perform a few of her Wareham-inspired songs as well as some covers. In addition, there will be a performance by Morrison’s friend and colleague Jackson Emmer, who is a country singer and songwriter.

The two met at a songwriting festival and have since written a few songs together.

Emmer said they will often meet on Zoom to do song writing and typically come out of those sessions with some good ones.

“It’s amazing to hear her bring those songs to life and sing them for people,” he said.

He added his favorite song they did together was called, “Put the Ring on Everyday.”

Emmer said he had been thinking of the song idea for a while, but was unsure of how to express it in the right way. However, Morrison’s personality and openness to talking about her life, marriage, work and music made her the right person for the job.

“It just sort of fell out of us — it didn't feel like work,” he added. “To hear her sing it just is so effortless and full of life and it's stuck in my head all the time, even though I never sang it myself.”

Morrison said the song will be released in February.

Emmer said, “Grace Morrison is an amazing talent. She's a world-class singer, songwriter and y’all are lucky to have her in your neighborhood.”

Morrison reciprocated this appreciation of talent: “Jackson Emmer is my favorite co-writing partner and one of my absolute favorite artists. I’m so excited to share him with folks in town.”

Morrison said she and Emmer have written with quite a few “hitmakers,” including their friend Susan Gibson who wrote “Wide Open Spaces” for The Chicks and  Lori McKenna who wrote “Humble and Kind” for Tim McGraw and “Girl Crush” for Little Big Town.

However, the two are still indie artists, which Morrison calls “the ultimate small business” and “one of the toughest businesses out there.”

She said, “Without indie artists there won’t be that next wave of hitmakers, so get on out there and support new music!”

Those interested in attending the event can RSVP for seating by contacting Morrison at gracemorrisonmusic@gmail.com

Though the event is free and open to the public, there is a suggested donation of $20. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own food.

Morrison said if this event is successful, she’d like to work with town organizations to “make it a regular event, bringing national original artists to town as a compliment to the great work they already do.”
