Police have arrested a 16-year-old juvenile from Onset for burglarizing a local church.

Midnight shift Patrol Officer Jennifer Braley responded to Heaven’s Gate Church, 3090 Cranberry Highway at approximately 6:30 a.m. Monday, June 7, for a reported break–in that occurred sometime during the night.

The church's front picture window was smashed and numerous items were missing from inside the building. The pastor of the church stated that a guitar used for church services had been stolen as well as a laptop computer, a cell phone, a wireless microphone, and a wallet containing credit cards and a small amount of cash.

A witness told detectives that he had seen a young man on a bicycle in the area early that morning. Their investigation led them to a home in Onset where they executed a search warrant and recovered items related to the break-in.

In less than 12 hours, Wareham police arrested the juvenile and charged him with breaking and entering a building at nighttime, malicious destruction of property over $250.00, and receiving stolen property over $250.00.

The juvenile was booked and released on personal recognizance and is awaiting a future court date. All of the stolen property was returned to the church.
