'Thank you' to Wareham Police
To the Editor:
We at Swift Beach Improvement Association want to express our gratitude to the Wareham Police Department for attending to some of the problems we have been experiencing. Since our parking areas have had no monitors this year visitors have often parked without bothering to have a parking permit. This week we noticed Police officers ticketing violators. The fine for parking without a permit is $15 according to the department.
The town has posted signs prohibiting dogs on the beach. We, residents of the area, have noticed not only dogs on the beach but dogs let loose on the beach. Some of the thoughtless owners of these dogs do not collect the deposits those dogs make. Finally, we have now seen police ticketing those dog owners. The fines for having a dog on the beach or marsh, leashed or not, are $25 for the first offense, $50 for the second and $100 for any further offenses. Any failure for collecting your dog’s waste is $50.
Many of the residents of this area clean the beach daily. Since the town is unable to collect rubbish at our beaches, our Association has hired a private rubbish collecting company to remove two barrels a week. These are for beach trash only. It is important that rubbish not be left outside of those barrels. Wild animals tear apart anything left outside of the barrels.
Thank you to the Wareham Police for helping us maintain our community. Thank you to all of the residents who help keep Swifts Beach such a great area.
