Marlinspike and more

What is marlinspike? Learn about rope, lines, knots, bends and hitches, and how to use lines to help dock and undock your boat, from guest speakers Bob Sweet and Dick Moore. 

The buffet will take place at Towne Tavern, 3138 Cranberry Highway. Social hour starts at 5:30, and the pizza buffet starts at 6:30. 

The program will be presented by the Buzzards Bay Sail and Power Squadron.

Alumni hoops

The Wareham High School 2024 state championship basketball team will face off against the 2010 state championship team. The game will take place at the Wareham High School at 5:30 p.m.

Onset to celebrate Pride Month

At the start of Pride Month, the Onset Bay Association is holding “Wareham Celebrates Pride,” an event to celebrate the diversity of the town’s community.

The event will include a flag raising ceremony, an invocation and a celebration with special musical guest The Femmes.

It will take place on Saturday, June 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bay View Park, 184 Onset Avenue, Onset.

Derby delights

The Wankinquoah Rod and Gun Club is holding its annual Tihonet Pond Fishing Derby. The club has been running the derby for over 50 years.

Held on the Massachusetts Free Fishing weekend, the proceeds from the derby are used to support the club’s junior associates program. Contact Charlie Murphy at associates@wrgclub.org for more information. Tickets are online at https://bit.ly/WRGC2024

Food and fatherhood

The Council on Aging, 48 Marion Road, will hold a Father’s Day Lunch at 11:30 a.m.

Entertainment will be provided by Mike Dardis. Tickets are available until May 30 or until sold out. Dinner will consist of pulled pork sliders, beans and rice, potato salad, broccoli salad, brownies and ice cream.

Buzzy bees

Prepare for an un-bee-lievable year with a kindergarten rally held at Wareham Elementary School from 5 to 6 p.m.

Receive a bee pass and fill out the back for a chance to win a raffle prize. Incoming kindergarteners can get some ice cream and tour the school.

Friday, June 7

Raffled ribs

The Redmen Hall will host its monthly meat raffle at 745 Main Street.

The doors open at 6 p.m. and a meal will be served at 6:30 p.m. for $8. Raffles start at 7 p.m.

The Redmen Hall meat raffle is usually held on the first Friday of every month. However, there will be no meat raffles held in July or August.
