Thomas J. Lufkin, 74, of Plymouth passed away peacefully at his home with care from his wife Valerie and Beacon Hospice. Tom had lived with Parkinson’s Disease for several years.

He was the son of the late Ruth M. (Moranville) and Richard F. Lufkin, Sr. Tom was born in Boston and lived in Everett and lived a short time in Maine before moving to Brockton. He graduated from Brockton High School and attended Bentley College and Andover Institute for Business.

Tom worked for many years as a computer supervisor in the banking industry, and later became a self-employed business owner. He retired from his most recent position as statistician for the Woods Hole, Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket Steamship Authority.

Tom was a veteran and served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to 1965.

Tom was most satisfied when he was working, no matter what the job was. But his most pleasure came from being with his family, dear friends Frank and Debby Lydon, and his three granddaughters who were the light of his life. Other than working and family, Tom liked to garden and spend the football season watching his favorite team, the New England Patriots. He never missed a game.

Tom and his wife Valerie J. (Serlenga) Lufkin celebrated 50 years of marriage last October. Also surviving are his daughter, Heidi J. Lufkin-Miles and his son, Mark J. Lufkin; his granddaughters, Miranda and Monica Miles and Taylor Lufkin; his brothers, Richard F. Lufkin, Jr., and William G. Lufkin and his wife Dorothy, and his sister Patricia A. Lufkin Moncey. Tom is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister in-law, the late Frances Lufkin.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit at the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 2599 Cranberry Highway (Route 28), on Sunday, July 22, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. A prayer service will follow at 3:30 p.m.
