Three Gatemen drafted to the majors
They're off to the big leagues!
Gatemen players Cole Freeman, Harrison Wenson, and Jackson Lamb were recently drafted onto Major League Baseball teams.
Freeman was drafted in the 18th round and will play for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Lamb was selected in the 35th round to play for the St. Louis Cardinals. Wenson was drafted in the 39th round and will play for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Freeman and Wenson will stay and play for the Gatemen until the end of the summer, but Lamb will likely be leaving the Gatemen early next week.
In other news, the Gatemen scored their third straight win on June 28, improving the team's record of 9 wins, 6 losses, and 1 tie. The game was at Veterans Field in Chatham against the Anglers, with a final score of 1-0.
It was the second time the Gatemen and Anglers have faced each other. The first resulted in a 7-1 victory for Chatham.
The first and only run of the game occurred at the top of the 6th inning with two outs, when Freeman hit a single driving Wenson home.
The Gatemen continue to show off their offensive progress. Gateman Colton Shaver, an infielder from Brigham Young University, currently leads the Cape Cod Baseball League in RBIs.
Live broadcasts for each game can be found on the Gatemen's website, gatemen.org, and live productions of every home game are shown on Wareham Community Television.
