Tihonet Pond Fishing Derby on Sunday, June 3

The Wankinquoah Rod and Gun Club will hold its annual Tihonet Pond Fishing Derby on Sunday, June 3.

Check-in for the event starts at 4 a.m. Fishing begins at 6 a.m., and prizes will be awarded at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $11 for adults and $3 for children aged 14 and younger. The fee includes breakfast and lunch will be available for purchase.

Participants can register online at www.tihonet.com or can download forms from the web sites for Wankinquoah Rod & Gun Club (www.wrgclub.net) and A.D. Makepeace Company (www.tihonet.com).

Forms are also available at Shirt Shack on 260 Marion Road or at M&D Bait & Tackle on 49 Main Street in Wareham.

Pre-registration is offered on Saturday, June 2, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Box Mill Hall in Tihonet Village at 146 Tihonet Road. Derby day registration is also available.

“It’s a terrific day, whether you’re a serious fisherman or you just want to enjoy some fun with your kids. It’s amazing to see entire families enjoying the day on the pond.” said Roland Murphy, president of the Wankinquoah Rod and Gun Club.

A raffle will be held for participants to win prizes such as a Johnson Kayak or a fly fishing lesson. Prizes will also be awarded in multiple categories for adults and juniors.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Wankinquoah Rod and Gun Club Youth Group. The derby falls on the Massachusetts Free Fishing Weekend, therefore, fishing licenses are not required this year.

New to this year, representatives from the Wareham Harbormaster’s Department will be on hand to discuss boat and water safety with attendees.
