Town issues Public Safety Road Conditions Alert

Feb 14, 2015

The Town of Wareham has issued a Public Safety Road Conditions Alert for February 14 and 15.

Town Administrator Derek Sullivan said that due to the historic winter storms that have hit the state of Massachusetts, there is a "severe road salt shortage." This has led to the Municipal Maintenance Department using a sand/salt mix.

Sullivan said that the department will focus clearing efforts on primary roads and hills.

"If you are driving on the roads please use extreme caution," said Sullivan, noting that conditions of secondary/side roads might not be what drivers expect. "These conditions may include ice and hard packed snow. The blizzard forecast for tonight, February 14, through Sunday, February 15 is expected to worsen these conditions during and after the storm."

Sullivan advised keeping off the roads both during and immediately after the expected storm. A parking ban has also been issued in the Town of Wareham for Saturday and Sunday until further notice.

"It will help our staff and contractors do the best possible job," he said. "The town has hired additional contractors with large equipment as some areas no longer have enough room to plow snow and require snow removal."
