Town Meeting is Oct. 25!

Oct 25, 2021

Fall Town Meeting is today, and voters will be asked to weigh in on 20 issues, including the future of the John W. Decas Elementary School, funding for a playground in Swifts Beach and funding for the Wickets Island Pier restoration.

Town Meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the Wareham High School auditorium, but voters are asked to arrive early to allow time to check in.

Although social distancing is no longer required, masks are required to be worn over the mouth and nose at all times in town buildings. No political buttons, clothing or signs will be allowed.

Voters will be asked to vote on 20 issues, ranging from the town’s capital plan to funding for a playground in Swifts Beach. The full warrant and Finance Committee report is attached to this story as a PDF (or click here).

Wareham Week has plenty for voters to read ahead of the meeting.

Town Meeting attendees will also be asked to decide on five citizens’ petition articles. Wareham Week has written about each of these petition articles:

• A proposal to reuse the soon-to-be-vacant Decas School as a community center

• A call for the town to enforce existing earth removal regulations

• An effort to guarantee remote access to meetings

• An effort to reduce the Select Board’s control over the Town Meeting warrant

• A proposal to reconfigure the Redevelopment Authority.
