Town receives $58,000 from South Shore Housing Development Corporation

Mar 24, 2010

The town has received $58,000 from the nonprofit South Shore Housing Development Corporation, Town Administrator Mark Andrews announced at the Board of Selectmen meeting Tuesday.

The payment was a result of litigation filed by the town against the nonprofit alleging that a unit developed to qualify as an affordable-housing unit was placed on the market at the regular market rate, Board of Selectmen Chairman Bruce Sauvageau said.

The money will be put in the Affordable Housing Trust Fund.

In other business:

  • The Board voted to approve the renewal of the seasonal liquor license for The Pavilion at Bay Pointe Country Club. The renewal was uncertain because Bay Pointe owed payments on land leased from the Community and Economic Development Authority (CEDA). Bay Pointe reached a payment agreement with CEDA Tuesday.
  • Town Administrator Mark Andrews announced that the town received an "e-Government" award, with distinction, last week, from Common Cause, a Massachusetts campaign for open government. The town received the award for making a number of documents, including meeting agendas and minutes, Town Meeting warrants, zoning bylaws, and the community calendar, available on the town website.
  • Chairman Bruce Sauvageau said that the disks from the town-wide computer audit, which were seized by the Plymouth County District Attorney's office, have been returned to the town's attorneys. Sauvageau said that it is not known whether the disks with confidential police information had been returned directly to Interim Police Chief Richard Stanley, as was indicated in a Jan. 13 letter from the DA's office, or whether the Inspector General's office had received the disks it requested. Sauvageau said the Board will need to discuss how to proceed.
