Towne Tavern and Tap obtain entertainment license
Towne Tavern and Tap Restaurateur David Barry’s application for an entertainment license was unanimously approved by the Select Board at its meeting Tuesday, July 19.
The license will allow Barry to host entertainment between the hours of 11 a.m. and 1 a.m. Monday through Saturday in the indoor portion of the building. Outside entertainment is limited to 11 p.m. On Sundays, the Tavern can host entertainment between the hours of 11 a.m. and 11 p.m. with the same stipulations.
Barry said the Tavern is not intending to use the entire allotted time and the entertainment would not be every day.
He added this license will allow the restaurant to host entertainment upon request without seeking the board’s approval each time.
“We’re a restaurant at firsthand, so the music that we're intending to do is either a single or dual acoustic entertainment background music in the lounge area or on the deck area, sometime between the hours of maybe six to nine max — maybe seven to 10 on certain days,” he said.
Barry added he has hosted a singer for special event brunches at his other locations and may at some point want to do the same in Wareham.
Select Board Clerk Tricia Wurts said she was concerned about the late night outside entertainment that may disrupt surrounding buildings.
Wurts added she also would not want to set a precedent for allowing outside entertainment past 11 p.m.
Barry said he understands Wurts concern, adding in all his years of operation, the Tavern hasn’t hosted outside entertainment past 10 p.m.
Therefore, the indoor stipulation was added to the entertainment agreement between the board and Barry.
