Tween to teen 80s beach party a fun way to end the summer
Big hair, spandex, and the hottest dance tracks of the 80s. The Junior Onset Bay Association members helped young dancers in grades six through 10 say “goodbye” to summer with its first ever 80s-themed beach party on Monday at Shell Point.
“It’s an end of the summer and a beginning of a new [school] year party,” said 16-year-old Danielle Miceli, who helped plan the event along with her fellow Junior Onset Bay Association members. “We wanted to do something for the kids and the community.”
DJ Roger Leary spun 1980s hits and current pop music for the dancers, who donned outfits and styles popular in that decade. The dancers enjoyed a moon bounce and refreshments.
The members of the newly formed Junior Onset Bay Association said they hope to make the beach party an annual event.
The organization started earlier this year and has been working to incorporate the community's youth into Onset Bay Association events. The members are responsible for organizing their own events and providing activities for children at the Onset Bay Association’s events.
“You should see them!” said Onset Bay Association member Linda Lockwood. “They are so grounded. ... They know how to handle planning the events.”
Proceeds from the beach party will benefit the family of eight-year-old Hailey Pease, a Wareham child who recently passed away from leukemia.
