Two-alarm fire in Onset
It took nearly 40 firefighters to bring down a blaze at 4 Cameron St., in Onset Thursday morning.
Onset Fire Department received a 911 call at 6:15 a.m. for a building fire, according to acting Onset Fire Chief Raymond Goodwin. He said when his crew arrived on the scene there was smoke coming out of multiple places in the two-story building, which has four separate apartments.
"There was a fair amount of fire in the stairwell, almost cutting the building in half," Goodwin said.
He said the two first-floor apartments were occupied and firefighters made their way to the two second floor apartments, which were both unoccupied.
No residents or firefighters were injured as a result of the fire.
Goodwin said a second alarm went out for additional help about an hour after arriving on the scene. Firefighters from Wareham and Bourne were brought in to fight the blaze as the Wareham Police Department controlled traffic on Onset Avenue.
"We knocked the fire down in about an hour," Goodwin said.
Onset firefighters were the last on the scene and began to leave at 10 a.m. Goodwin said investigators were coming to the scene and it was too early to know the cause of the fire.
