Two hospitalized after Cranberry Highway crash

Aug 1, 2011

Two people were transported to Tobey Hospital just after 4 p.m. on Monday following a two-vehicle crash in the area of 3132 Cranberry Highway in East Wareham, according to the Onset Fire Department.

According to an eyewitness who wished to remain anonymous, a car was rear-ended by a minivan as it was making a left turn into Garden Homes Estate South.

There were no passengers in the car or the minivan, according to officials. The extent of the drivers' injuries could not immediately be known.

"I heard a loud bang.... I guess everyone heard it," the witness said. "It's a terrible highway. No one pays attention."

It is unclear how fast the minivan was traveling at the time of the crash. The impact was so great that the bumper of the car ripped and was laying in the left hand lane of the highway. The minivan's airbags had deployed.

The crash shut down the eastbound portion of Cranberry Highway and backed up traffic for nearly a half mile.

In addition to the Onset Fire Department, Wareham EMS, Wareham Police, and Bourne EMS responded to the scene.
