Two masked men rob Lindsey's Restaurant

Two masked men dressed head to toe in black assaulted the night manager at Lindsey's Restaurant, stole all the money in the safe and escaped last Sunday night, according to management.

Debi Lindsey, one of the other managers of the restaurant at 3138 Cranberry Highway and daughter of owner Cheri Lindsey, said that in the 66-year history of the restaurant they had only been robbed once before. She said that instance was just someone running up to the register, and nothing like the occurrences Sunday night.

"It was very well planned -- not random," Lindsey said.

According to Lindsey, the robbery occurred just after 10 p.m. and there were no customers in the store. The only employees were the one night manager and the bartender. Lindsey said the bartender was upstairs and went downstairs to the manager's office and asked the manager if she wanted company, which the manager declined.

Ten minutes later, two men dressed completely in black, including masks, sunglasses and gloves, rushed the manager inside the office.

Lindsey said at first the manager believed it was one of the employees playing a joke on her. Then one of the men threw her across the room and said, "This isn't a fu**ing joke."

The two men made off with security cameras and "a substantial amount of money" from the safe, according to Lindsey. She said the manager couldn't see much, since the men rushed her from behind and pushed her head against the table. The two men didn't appear to be armed.

According to Lindsey, the bartender heard a commotion and came downstairs but at that point the two men were gone. After the bartender called Wareham police, Lindsey said detectives came and dusted for prints and searched the area. She said a detective has been back to the restaurant nearly every day since Sunday night just to check the area.

Interim Wareham Police Chief Kevin Walsh could not be reached for comment.

Lindsey said it seemed that the two men hid in the restaurant and waited for everyone to leave.

Lindsey's Restaurant is offering a $5,000 reward for anyone with information leading to an arrest and conviction of the two robbers.

"We're willing to pay for our peace of mind," Lindsey said.

She said the restaurant opened up the next morning on time and ready for business.

"Now we're going to be very vigilant," she said. "We want to make sure it doesn't happen again."
