Two men arrested for alleged role in armed robbery, another arrested with weapon

A Saturday, Sept. 15, traffic stop led Wareham Police to two men who were allegedly involved in a robbery just days before — one of whom was arrested earlier in the week on drug charges.

James Pires, 22, and Peter Rezendes, 24, both of Wareham, were arrested when Officer Charles Pillsbury pulled over the vehicle in which they were traveling, after noticing that the men had outstanding arrest warrants.

Detectives had obtained warrants for Pires and Rezendes after an investigation into a Sept. 13 armed robbery revealed that, while traveling in a vehicle in Wareham, Pires held a "machete-type weapon to the neck of a male" and demanded cash before pushing the male out of the moving vehicle, according to police.

Police determined that Rezendes was present during the incident. He was charged with being involved in the "criminal joint venture," according to police.

Police had arrested Pires on Tuesday, Sept. 11, after he was found in a vehicle in possession of two knives and approximately 16.7 grams of suspected cocaine in small baggies, according to police.

William Black, Jr., 22, of Wareham, was also arrested after the vehicle stop. Police said they found Black to be in possession of an illegal, spring-loaded weapon.

Officers at the scene also noticed the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, and confiscated two knives from the back seat of the car, according to police.

The victim of the robbery, who police did not identify, was unharmed by the machete, but was treated for abrasions and other minor injuries at Tobey Hospital, according to police. The investigation is ongoing.
