Two men arrested in East Wareham on heroin charges
Two men were arrested at an East Wareham apartment and charged with possessing and planning to sell heroin, according to Wareham Police.
Ronald "Red" Gomes, 63, of 614 Gatehouse Drive, was arrested along with 33-year-old New York resident Callis Phillip when 14 grams of heroin, three digital scales and several corner cut plastic baggies were found with Phillip in Gomes' apartment on Monday, April 6.
According to police, detectives from Wareham, Middleboro and Mattapoisett executed a search warrant for illegal drugs on Gatehouse Drive, located in the Union Pond Apartments complex, at 10:45 p.m. Monday night.
Detectives entering the apartment encountered Phillip coming out of the bathroom, where a powdery substance believed to be heroin was found on the floor and toilet areas, along with two plastic baggies containing suspected heroin, police said.
A further search of the apartment revealed the 14 grams of heroin and other drug paraphernalia, according to police.
Phillip was arrested and charged with possession of a class A substance (Heroin) with intent to distribute and possession of a class A substance (Heroin).
Gomes, the renter of the apartment, was not present during the execution of the search warrant, but was located nearby on Depot Street, where he was taken into custody without incident. Gomes was found to be in possession of a small amount of a substance believed to be cocaine, according to police.
Gomes was arrested and charged with possession of a class A substance (Heroin) with intent to distribute and possession of a class A substance (Heroin), as well as possession of a class B substance (Cocaine), all of which are subsequent offenses.
Both men were arraigned on the charges at Wareham District Court on Tuesday, April 7.
