UPDATE: Man airlifted after being struck by a vehicle on Route 6
A man and his dog were hit by a vehicle near Soft as a Grape on Route 6 Monday evening, causing the man to be airlifted to a Boston hospital, according to police.
Wareham Police officers responded to the area of 328 Marion Road (Route 6) at 7:50 p.m. Monday and found the man lying on the side of the road.
Police said the man was transported to Tobey Hospital, then to a Boston area hospital via Med-Flight due to the nature of the injuries to his legs and back. The injuries appeared to be non-life-threatening. The injured dog was transported to an area veterinarian with minor injuries.
The man was reportedly riding a bicycle while his dog walked alongside him on the side of Route 6 when he and the dog were struck by a vehicle traveling westbound. The vehicle was reportedly operated by 42-year-old Christian Iacobucci of Plymouth, who was not injured.
Police said the area of Route 6 where the man and his dog were struck is not well lit, and it appears the man and his dog were on the road at the time of the incident.
Police investigation of the incident is ongoing, and the name of the victim has not been released at this time, pending notification of family members.
