During an altercation between two patrons,a man was stabbed nine times at an Onset bar Monday, Feb. 2.
Wareham man Alexx Rezendes, 27, was charged with assault to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon following a fight at Stephen's Lounge at 201 Onset Ave., He is accused of stabbing 51-year-old Jesse Paquet, also of Wareham.
According to a Wareham Police report, the two men began arguing shortly after midnight on Monday after Rezendes blew smoke into Paquet's face.
When asked to stop, Rezendes told Paquet he could do what he wanted, according to the report, which angered Paquet. He then struck Rezendes in the face and a fight broke out, which other patrons joined.
The men then moved to the back hallway of the business, where Paquet was stabbed multiple times in the back. In security camera footage obtained by police, Rezendes can be seen "thrusting his right hand into the victim’s back," according to the report.
The bartender called 911 and reported the incident. When law enforcement arrived on scene, they found large amounts of blood around the business and Paquet with multiple stab wounds but conscious and alert.
He was taken to St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford, where an examination revealed nine puncture wounds on his back. Medical staff told officers the injuries did not appear to be internal.
After identifying him as the suspect, police arrested Rezendes at his home with no incident Tuesday afternoon. He was charged Feb. 3 and is due back in court for a probable cause hearing April 2.
