UPDATE: Two more arrested in Pepin's liquors robbery

Dec 20, 2012

Two more people have been charged in connection with the Nov. 2011 robbery of Pepin’s Liquors in West Wareham.

Paul Monteiro, 44, of New Bedford is charged with armed robbery. Monteiro is currently imprisoned at the Bristol County House of Correction on unrelated charges. Also charged with armed robbery is 41-year-old Kevin Pina of New Bedford.

Forty-year-old Windy Monteiro, of 671 State Road, Dartmouth, was charged with armed robbery on Dec. 13, for her alleged involvement in the 2011 incident at Pepin's Liquors.

Paul Monteiro is Windy Monteiro's husband, according to cour tescords.

Wareham Police said they d not anticipate any more arrests, but the details of the robbery are still being investigated.

Surveillance video from Nov. 28, 2011 showed Windy Monteiro entering Pepin's Liquors, having a conversation with an employee, and returning to her vehicle in the parking lot, according to police.

Police say a man, who was a passenger in the vehicle, then entered the store, jumped over the counter, threatened the employee with a knife, and then left with a cash register.

Monteiro then allegedly picked up the man a short distance from the store, police said.

It is unclear whether Paul Monteiro or Pina were in the car.

On Nov. 29, 2012 – almost a year to the day after the robbery – Wareham Police received the tip about Monteiro.

A detective from Wareham then met with two New Bedford detectives on Dec. 4, who, earlier that day, had served Windy Monteiro with a subpoena. The New Bedford detectives viewed the photo taken by the surveillance cameras at Pepin’s, and identified the female in the video as Windy Monteiro.

After running a check of the Registry of Motor Vehicles database, police found that Windy Monteiro's husband, Paul, has the same kind of car that was used in the robbery registered in his name.

The New Bedford detectives indicated that they are investigating Windy Monteiro, her husband, and “several associates with their involvement in several armed robberies within New Bedford and the surrounding communities,” according to court documents.

In addition to New Bedford Police, the Wareham Police Department was assisted by Dartmouth Police and the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section.
