The lobby of Memorial Town Hall is now graced with a veterans memorial commemorating Wareham veterans who fought in wars all the way back to the Revolutionary War.

"I'm so pleased with how it looks," said Wareham resident Hazel Tabor, who visited the lobby on March 13 during a dedication ceremony to see the names of her husband and three uncles on the plaques. "It does wonders for Wareham. Wareham really needs something like this."

The large wooden plaques, prominently displayed on both walls of the lobby, are adorned with black nameplates engraved in golden letters with the names of people who served or died in the wars fought throughout American history.

The dedication ceremony was attended by Congressman Bill Keating, State Senator Marc Pacheco, State Representative Susan Williams Gifford, Town Administrator Mark Andrews, Veterans Council Leader James Newman, Julio Roderick, quartermaster for the Dudley L. Brown VFW Post 2846, as well as veterans and their family members.

"Throughout this nation's history, men and women from different generations have been called upon to protect the rights that are in [the Constitution]," said Pacheco. "The only reason why we get to take these rights for granted are because there are so many men and women [who] when they are called upon are willing to serve and die for their country."
