Veugen urges residents to vote on June 17
Wareham School Committee member Rhonda Veugen, the lone speaker of the public participation segment of their meeting on Wednesday night, spoke about people getting out to vote on to override Proposition 2 ½ on June 17.
Speaking as a parent, Veugen said that she encourages all citizens to attend either of two open informational forums regarding the override, or at the very least, to vote on June 17.
On June 5, Superintendent Kimberly Shaver-Hood and Town Administrator Derek Sullivan, along with the Board of Selectmen and the Finance Committee, met to present information on the override, and there will be a second open forum on Thursday June 12 at the Wareham Middle School auditorium.
“These two public forums are an opportunity to get people to ask questions directly to our town administrator, our superintendent, as well as different boards in our town in regards to their support of the override,” said Veugen.
A “yes” vote on the override will add $27 a month to the average homeowners’ tax bill, according to the website investinwareham.com.
The move to override Proposition 2 ½ is to help improve public safety and the current state of Wareham's schools, as well as preventing the loss of the Council on Aging and the town library.
All information on the override is located on investinwareham.com.
“Vote on June 17,” concluded Veugen.
