VFW shows Thanksgiving spirit, feeds those in need
The Dudley L. Brown VFW Post 2846 in Onset held a free veterans dinner on Saturday, Nov. 18.
The VFW had hot meals available for those who could come to its physical location on 4 Gibbs Ball Park Road. It also delivered meals out in the community for those who could not.
The mobile deliveries reached people in all the town's senior living communities, said Naomi, a member of the VFW auxiliary.
All told, the VFW served around 225 meals, Naomi added. "It's a great event."
The VFW tries to hold this event every year, said Matthew Buckingham, who was helping with the event.
"We grew up here, so it's important to give back," Buckingham said.
The VFW also hosted a turkey giveaway, with the turkeys donated by local cannabis delivery service Doobie.
Doobie had helped the VFW with Oktoberfest, and was contacted to help as well with the Thanksgiving event, said Ericca Kennedy with the company.
Kennedy added, "It's really come together for us to be able to support them."
