Vikings face Rockland at semi-finals in Brockton tonight

Mar 4, 2013

The Vikings have been unstoppable so far in the post-season, and tonight they'll face number 4 seed Rockland at Brockton High School at 7 p.m.

The top-seeded Vikings have been steamrolling the competition in the post-season so far, but coach Kevin Brogioli says tonight will be tougher than the last couple go-rounds.

"This will be a much tougher game as Rockland is a far better team than both those teams," said Brogioli. "They have a very talented center in Tyler Gibson."

Rockland ended the regular season with a record of 17-3.

The Vikings are known for their aggressive and effective offense, and tonight they'll square off against a team known for its defense.

"They play strong defense as a team," said Brogioli. "We have to rebound well and get the game in the 60s or 70s."

So far in the post-season, the Vikings have been making winning look easy.

Brogioli said that it's hard to beat a team three times in one season, but that's exactly what the Vikings did Friday when they smoked number 8 seed Case in the quarterfinals 84-52.

Darien Fernandez and Mason Vasconcellos led the charge scoring 21 points each. Also scoring in the double digits was Sam Brogioli with 15 points.

In a match up with Case earlier in the season, the boys pulled out a narrow 60-65 victory.

The boys won by a large margin in the first round too, beating number 16 seed Norwell  78-57 on Feb. 27.

The Vikings ended their regular season with a record of 19-1 and with their post-season victories their record now stands at 21-1.

The one loss was in the first game of the season against North Quincy, who they defeated when they met up again later in the season.
