Vikings football falls to Seekonk

Sep 24, 2013

The Vikings football team was defeated by Seekonk  48-20 on Friday, September 20. The team is now 0-1 in the South Coast Conference and 0-2 overall.

Coach Dan Nault says the team is "just a very, very young football team," but has made progress in the two weeks since it fell to Bishop Stang.

"We were much better than when we played against Bishop Stang," Nault said of the Seekonk game.

The Vikings were down 34-0 at halftime.

"We played a lot better in the second half," Nault noted.

The boys scored all 20 points in the second half.

At the beginning of the season, Nault had hoped that senior Richie Austin would be one of the seniors to help lead the team this year, but Austin is out for now after breaking his hand during practice, the coach said.

"That probably means he can't play offense," Nault added, but noted that defense isn't out of the question.

In years past, the Vikings have had rosters of up to 120 guys, but this year, there are about 60.

"Having experience when you're at the beginning of the season is always a plus," Nault noted. "Usually more than half the team has some varsity experience."

The season is still young, and Nault says that he expects the Vikings to win games this year despite their inexperience.

"We just want to get everybody better," he said. "All the younger kids have to get better."

Next, the Vikings will play Dighton-Rehoboth away on Friday, September 27, at 4 p.m.
