Vikings top seed in South Division 3 Championship, set to play Foxboro
The Wareham varsity boys basketball team is diving into the South Division 3 championships as the top seed with their undefeated 20-0 season record.
"[We're going] to do the things we've done this year and try to do them well," said varsity Head Coach Kevin Brogioli about his tournament game plan.
Wareham, after a "bye" in the preliminary round, will play their first round game on Wednesday, February 29 at 7 p.m. in Wareham against the 17th seeded Foxboro, who lost to Dover-Sherborn in a preliminary round game on Monday, February 26.
Wareham has home court advantage and is playing Foxboro, the last seed, because of their top seed status.
"Foxboro is quick … and [they] like to shoot the 3-pointer," said Brogioli, who with his team watched them play in Monday's Dover-Sherborn game. "We're going to do things we've been doing so far: solid defense, and run the fast-break offense."
If Wareham wins Wednesday's game against Foxboro, they will move on to the quarter finals on March 2 at 7 p.m. against the winner of the Dighton-Rehoboth vs. Old Rochester Regional game.
After that comes the semi-finals, and then the finals, the date and location of which have not yet been announced. If Wareham wins the South Division 3 championships, they will then be set to play the winners of the other regional Division 3 championships (North, West, and Central) in an overall Division 3 state championship.
"You've got to play really well and you've got to be lucky," said Brogioli about his team's upcoming tournament matches. "We'll just take it like we've done all season, one game at a time. …It got us to 20-0, and we hope it can get us to 26-0."
