Vikings track approaches the finish line of the season
Dashing off the blocks, leaping through the air and running far were just some of what the members of the Wareham High School track team did at their most recent meet.
The boys and girls track teams took on Bishop-Feehan High School in their last meet of the year at Wheaton College and even though the Vikings were not victorious, Head Coach Chris Gardner was happy with the way his team performed.
"We're preparing for the rest of the season," said Gardner. "We don't have everybody doing the events they normally do but it's going really well.
At the meet, the boys team had a couple of first place finishes with Ryland Potter winning the 55 meter hurdles and Ethan Potito won the long jump.
For the girls team, Sienna Cabe won both the 55 meter hurdles and the long jump.
The boys team finished the regular season with one win and five losses while the girls finished with one win and three losses. Despite the losing records, Gardner said he has seen some individuals succeed this year.
"Sienna Cabe is doing very well and often wins the hurdles, long jump and high jump," said Gardner. "Ingrid Beaudoin is a ninth grader and she has been running really well in the 1000 meter and the mile"
He added the boys team has seen individuals succeed too.
"Ryland Potter and Will Wiksten have been doing really well in the 55 meter hurdles," said Gardner. "They have pretty much qualified for our state meet."
Next up for Vikings track are their invitational, conference and state meets. In order to make compete at this level, athletes must hit a certain benchmark in order to qualify.
"I think we'll probably have about three people in each event at the conference meet," said Gardner. "We only have a few qualified for the state meet so far."
