Village Hoops donates new bleachers to Onset courts
Thanks to Village Hoops and the United Way, the Hammond School court has two sets of shiny new bleachers for people to hang out on and watch a game.
The Select Board officially voted to accept the gift Aug. 9.
Aaron Strothers of Village Hoops, a basketball coach and organizer of weekly pick-up games throughout the summer, said he applied for a United Way grant to cover the cost. He fronted the money and will be reimbursed.
“I know they got great use at the ribbon cutting the Scotty Monteiro Foundation did last weekend,” Strothers said
The board expressed their gratitude.
“I’m very thankful for everything he’s done for the courts in Onset and he does for the youth in this town,” said Select Board member Jared Chadwick.
Board chair Judith Whiteside also thanked Strothers.
“It’s so nice that you have chosen to give back to your community,” Whiteside said.
