Volunteers sought for Habitat for Humanity renovations
The Buzzards Bay Area Habitat for Humanity is seeking volunteers to renovate one of its homes, located at 18 Minot Ave., starting next month.
The Mattapoisett-based chapter of the global nonprofit has built nine homes in the South Coast since 1996 with the goal of improving the living situations of low-income families.
Renovations will take place on Oct. 1 (painting, interior doors), Oct. 8 (flooring) and Oct. 15 (kitchen cabinetry). The work takes place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
In addition to seeking people to help finish interior renovations, Habitat needs people who are willing to provide food and drinks for the volunteers.
Habitat homes are built with volunteer labor and donations of land, money and materials, as well as 300 sweat equity hours the Habitat family puts into building their own home. The homes are sold at no profit and financed with no-interest to those who qualify.
