The Walk for Marie, an annual tradition honoring Marie Auld, collected 764 boxes of cereal this year, all of which will be donated to Damien’s Place. The walk itself is held at Buttonwood Park in New Bedford.

Auld’s children, Megan Greene, Ken Metivier, and Kristen Murphy, started the walk to honor their mother after her death.

“We like to do everything for the town, because that’s where she lived,” said Metivier.

“She just loved her town and loved everyone in it and was a big part of it,” said Murphy.

In the past, they have collected peanut butter, gently used winter coats, school supplies, and pasta — all items that people need and that most people can afford to donate.

Last year, the siblings collected about 1,500 boxes of pasta. In the past, they have collected more than 600 winter coats, more than 1,000 jars of peanut butter, and more than 1,200 school supplies.
