Walmart: The tail wagging the dog
To the Editor:
Well, here we go again. Our elected officials are being dictated to.
For all the time spent at meetings, compromises made, times of emotion, postponed meetings, Walmart, a major retailer is delayed, after serving this community for more than 17 years.
Our Selectmen have decided to do their best imitation of the U.S. Congress — let's just play mind games and sit on our hands because we do not want to offend a cranberry grower who also wants to play mind games with consumers because they feel the power of having the money, and do not want this project to proceed because of their influence in this town in the name of sewerage.
It's funny because what they are pedaling is nothing but sewerage. The head of this cranberry grower is on an ego trip.
To our elected officials — collectively — I say you better get your heads out of where the sun doesn't shine and get this done, because the whole thing means jobs and additional revenue this community can ill afford to lose.
It seems we've been down this road before. There have been recalls before, too. You have been put in charge of working for peoples' interests, and not a cranberry grower's.
You were told that there doesn't seem to be a problem with the capacity of sewerage.
Tell me, did A.D. Makepeace have any stumbling blocks when putting their project together? I probably know the answer.
In closing, I am hoping what I'm thinking is wrong, and I hope what you will eventually do is not wrong.
