Wareham-based painting commemorating September 11 to be displayed in statewide tribute ceremonies
As the 10th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks approaches, Marion artist, Alexander Byron’s dramatic 6-foot by 5-foot painting entitled “We Must Never Forget” will be displayed at the Hall of Fame, “Patriot’s Place” at Foxboro Stadium on Thursday, September 1 until Saturday, September 10.
Byron’s painting shows firefighters raising the American flag in the rubble of the World Trade Center towers.
While the original painting has been displayed on a billboard since September 11, 2002 on Cranberry Highway in Wareham, just before Buzzards Bay near the Cape Cod Canal, copies of the painting have toured several states and have been carried in countless patriotic parades.
On Sunday, September 11, the painting will travel to Boston at the Hatch Shell on the Esplanade where a tribute concert by the Boston Pops Brass Ensemble will take place.
The original oil painting hung in the Massachusetts State House before its installment along the Cranberry Highway.
