Wareham boys soar over Case, 97-41

Feb 13, 2010

The Wareham boys varsity basketball was strong from the opening jump ball, combining suffocating defense with a varied offense that produced points in bunches, to win their 21st game of the year on Friday, Feb. 12 at home.

The defense held Case to 11 points in the first quarter and only 18 at the half, while the home-team offense left the floor at the half with 60 points on the board.  There were stretches in the first half when the Case players failed to cross mid-court, leading to a series of easy Viking baskets, with a spectacular Jordan Rezendes-to-Jules Tavares setup dunk thrown in for the crowd's entertainment.

Wareham's second team took over in the second half and expanded the lead, proving equally strong on defense as while methodically breaking the Case defenders down when Wareham went on the offensive.  The crowd was urging Wareham to top 100 points in the final minute, but the team held to its ball movement and settled for a satisfying 97 total points.

The Viking boys finish the season at home on Tuesday, Feb. 19, against Bourne.
