Wareham Building Commissioner leaving for position in Dartmouth

Mar 5, 2019

Wareham’s Building Commissioner David Riquinha will leave his position with the town next week for a new job as the Building Commissioner of Dartmouth.

The announcement of Riquinha’s departure arrived at Tuesday night’s Selectmen’s meeting. In a letter, Riquinha said he had made the decision in order to work closer to home and family.

A Dartmouth native, Riquinha resigned from his previous position as the Building Commissioner of Harwich in 2016 for the same reason.

“He’s done an outstanding job,” said Selectman Peter Teitelbaum. “He’s going to be missed.”

Selectmen applauded Riquinha for the work he’d done enforcing town bylaws over the course of the last two years.

“David has worked really hard during a very short period of time,” said Selectman Alan Slavin. “I think it’s a big loss for the town.”

Town Administrator Derek Sullivan said Riquinha will be around in the weeks following his departure to help ensure a smooth transition period. A new Building Commissioner has not yet been named.
