Wareham DECA delivers at district competitions
The Wareham High School DECA students brought their all to Hyannis for the 2026 district competition.
Students traveled down the cape Thursday, Jan. 9 to Friday, Jan. 10 to face off in a competition against 15 high schools across the region including over 1,000 competitors.
DECA is an international non-profit organization dedicated to teaching kids about business, marketing, finance and more as well as giving them the skills they need to prepare as future entrepreneurs. Each year DECA hosts competitions at district, state and international levels for kids to demonstrate the skills they have learned.
Of the 50 students who represented Wareham in competition, 24 were competing for the very first time. Six students came back with awards recognizing their performance.
These students all “made the stage” and were recognized for their accomplishments in their competition category.
Students won in both the “Mini” and “Grand” award ceremonies.
Mini awards were given to Landon Stewart who won second place in roleplay two, Mark Deyoe who won first place on the written test and Caleb Carter who won first place in roleplay two.
Top ten grand awards for apparel and accessories marketing were given to Kailee Rose with awards for accounting applications given to Landon Stewart.
Caleb Carter and Mark Deyoe finished in the top ten principles of business management and administration awards. Deyoe was awarded third place.
Sam Baptise was in the top ten for restaurant and food service management. Jackson Cabe won top ten in principles of hospitality and tourism.
“Our Chapter is one of the smaller chapters that attended but we always bring energy and support each other. I am so proud of everyone that went, especially our first time competitors," said DECA president Kailee Rose, "I can’t wait to have the same energy at the State conference."
Students are set to compete at the Massachusetts DECA State Career Development Conference this upcoming March 12 to March 14.
