Wareham drops powder puff game to ORR
The girls of Wareham dropped the second annual powder puff football game to Old Rochester Regional in overtime.
It was a tight game, with the score 0-0 at the end of the fourth quarter. After chants of "O-VER-TIME, O-VER-TIME" from the crowd, the coaches and referees decided to play one round of overtime.
Each team got four downs from the 10-yard line. ORR scored, and then intercepted a pass during Wareham's first down to take the game, 6-0.
The game acts as a fundraiser for both schools and is a fun way of unifying the student body.
"The money goes to the senior class, so it's a nice fundraiser," Wareham coach Steve Faniel said.
Fans had to buy a ticket to watch the game, and ORR and Wareham split the profits — the game is only for bragging rights.
The Wareham team had spent the days before the game practicing with Faniel to prepare for the matchup.
"It was fun, I think the girls had fun," Faniel said.
Next year, Wareham will host the powder puff game.
