Wareham employees to gain cyber smarts

Nov 4, 2019

Five hundred Wareham town and public school employees will receive cyber-security training, thanks to funding from the state’s Cybersecurity Awareness Program grants.

“I am extremely pleased that the new cybersecurity grant program will be extending resources to educate over a thousand public employees in my district,” said Senator Marc Pacheco.  “In today’s modern workplace, online activity is, of course, essentially unavoidable. Simply put, the public employees who interact with sensitive data ought to have the baseline skills and knowledge to protect that information. This program will help fortify our state’s overall cybersecurity defense measures and I am proud to have supported its authorization in the legislature.”

Employees will receive interactive, online training on topics including USB device safety and email security, and will also receive simulated phishing emails. Phishing refers to emails or websites that appear to be a trusted entity, like a bank or the government, but are in fact a ploy from an attacker hoping to gain personal information like passwords.
