Wareham firefighters rescued a man who fell through the ice on a frozen pond near Charge Pond Road on Jan. 12.

A bystander pushed a kayak to the man before rescue teams arrived. Two off-duty firefighters were first on the scene and reported the incident to the department around 5 p.m.

Minutes later, rescue teams arrived and two firefighters entered the water wearing survival suits, insulated water resistant clothing.

The firefighters pulled the man to safety using ropes and a flotation device.

In a Facebook post, the Wareham Fire Department reminded residents that “no ice is safe ice.”
