Wareham Fire District meeting reconvenes today, April 30 at 7 p.m.
A contentious Wareham Fire District Annual Meeting will be continued today, April 30, at 7 p.m. in the Wareham High School auditorium. All registered voters living in the Wareham Fire District may participate.
Officials will ask voters for a hefty budget increase this coming fiscal year for the fire and water departments. The $12.3 million combined budget for the district, which is governed independently from the town, is up $1.6 million from last year, marking a 16 percent increase.
On April 7, the meeting opened and featured voters demanding answers to questions from officials regarding the budget. Fire District officials were told to return prepared to explain salary increases for the three highest paid officials on the fire department and were told to consider adopting a capital spending plan to better account for purchases such as fire trucks.
