Wareham Fire hosts Fire Prevention Open House, parade this Sunday

Oct 9, 2012

The Wareham Fire Department will host its 17th annual Fire Prevention Open House this Sunday, October 14, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The event kicks off with a fire truck parade, which steps off promptly at 11:30 a.m. at Besse Park. The parade ends at the Main Street fire station, where families will learn about fire safety.

The theme for this year's event is "Practice your escape plan" and "have two ways out."

Children can enter a "smoke house," where they will learn to crawl low under smoke to reach exits. A fire extinguisher demonstration will be conducted, as well as demos of fire hoses, and a vehicle extrication. Crews will discuss the proper maintenance of smoke detectors, when to pull a fire alarm box, and other topics.

Other activities include face-painting by the Wareham Rainbow Girls, sand art, and photos with Sparky the Fire Dog.

A free raffle drawing will take place at 2 p.m. Wareham Firefighters Local 2810 donated one girls' bicycle and one boys' bicycle with helmets for the drawing.

Papa Gino's will provide free pizza for attendees.
